5 Destinations on My Wishlist

Christmas is almost here, so that means my holiday list is short, I almost always ask for something travel related.

Airline Tickets

Air Miles

Hotel Stays

You name it.

I’m always planning and re-planning my list of vacations and places I want to go every year. it’s kinda part of the fun of this time of year that I’ve held over from my old days of working in an office when the vacation calendar would re-set and I could start dreaming again.

Here’s what I’ve come up with for 2014.

Yup, I’m an Anglophile, I can’t help it, I love the place. So my main ask this year for Christmas was for some travel miles to make the trek to England come February for a month!

Pro Tip: When using miles, check the off-season rates for crazy good deals. I am flying round trip Boston to Manchester for 35,000 miles total.

I’ve had Scotland on my wish list for a looooong time. So when I’m in England in February I’m really excited to make the trek up to Scotland and spend some quality time in Edinburgh.

Pro Tip: Whenever I head to Europe I always make use of the extensive train system they have. Sites like The Trainline can get you some really nice deals.

The last two years I have made the trip out to Portland to attend a conference called the World Domination Summit (it’s not quite as scary as it sounds!) and have fallen in love with the area. So I’m heading back for an extended stay.

Pro Tip: If you’re looking to stay a week or more somewhere check out sites like AirBnB, VRBO or HomeAway to find nice places to stay including kitchens at reduced rates.

Fort Myers

While Florida isn’t usually high on my hit list for travel, sorry Florida, I’ve been dying to hit up the Red Sox Spring Training grounds for a while. This year, I’m hoping is the time to go and check out the Champs before the season starts.

Pro Tip: If you want to follow a team anywhere, get on their mailing list. Because I sign up for Red Sox newsletters, they gave me an early heads up when tickets would go on sale.

Iceland has been another spot I’ve been dying to visit for a while. And the fact that I’ve had about 7 friends visit this year (and post all their damn pictures on Facebook), hasn’t helped the itch.

Pro Tip: A site like TravelZoo offers a VIP newsletter than offers amazing deals weekly, just a few months ago they had a crazy good deal to Iceland, unfortunately at a time I couldn’t go, but keep an eye out.

Of course 5 places is just at the tip of my list, there are always about 30 more places behind these.

What’s on your list?
