Mini Vacations for the Soul

I’m currently on a mini vacation in Aspen, Colorado – yes, it’s as amazing as it sounds, and yes again, pictures are to come!

View from my hotel balcony, Aspen, Colorado.

This was sort of a spur of the moment trip to semi attempt to make up for me missing my big UK trip this past August due to my secretly weak Achilles Tendon. I found a ridiculous deal on Jetsetter for a resort here in Aspen and figured why the hell not.

The crazy thing is, this is my first actual honest solo vacation. And the crazier thing is why haven’t I been doing this before?! Of course, I still love to travel with friends and family, but wow, what a relaxing vacation.

I’ve seen amazing nature.

I’m staying in an amazing hotel.

I get to do every single thing I want to do.

I only took 4 days off from work for vacation.

I’ve always been a proponent of the mini vacation, something that is 3-5 days long. With the 9-5er, I’d say if I had my druthers, I’d much rather do a bunch of mini breaks instead of one really long vacation.

The first benefit is you can go on more vacations! So there’s a huge bonus to start off with. Another is flexibility and spontaneity, if (like me) you have a tidy vacation fund tucked into your bank account then you can jump at the chance when a great deal shows up.

Aspen has never really been on my radar, I’m not much of a skiier – more of a lodge person really – and beyond just one time in the Denver airport, had never even been to Colorado. But, knowing that usually the hotel stay is one of the biggest expenses on a trip, getting this room at a really low rate started me thinking about going.

I’ve been able to base myself in Aspen and drive out to the surrounding areas, new camera in hand to take a million pictures, the scenery does not disappoint!

This amazing view is from...the highway!

I’m still here in Colorado for a few more days, but keep the idea of a short trip in mind, if you can snag a great deal on hotel or airfare, then it will all be worth it, and you will return to work refreshed and relaxed.

  • Mini-vacations are the bomb! Any time I can get good airfare, I buy tickets to wherever is on sale. We usually stay for 3 days/2 nights and it is suc a nice break.

    Have fun in Colorado!

It’s totally true, something about being somewhere new even just for a few days really makes a difference. And since I ended up here solely because of a hotel and airfare deal, I’m going to apply that to other deals I can find.

  • Mini vacations are great! You don’t have to take a long one for it to be refreshing. It’s why long weekends are good. There are definitely some good deals for this time of year so makes sense you got a great price to Colorado. I did as well! Summer is over and it’s before ski season! 🙂

Yea its a perfect time to be here, it’s “off season” but the weather has been great and got a great deal on traveling here because of that. I’m already planning my next mini break!

  • i’m all about the mini breaks, even if they are just for the weekend. 🙂 it sorta resets the clock until the next time you get the travel itch.

I 100% agree, I’m well on my way to being refreshed and I have seen some amazing natural scenery, I can’t wait for my next one!

  • I love mini vacations and the solo ones are best. Wish i could do more but working too much at the moment to get that traveling fund back up.

    • Liz

It is hard to get the traveling funds back up, especially if you have a never-ending list of places to go like me.
