If there’s one thing that kids love, it’s holidays. While the peak summer season may have been and gone, leaving some popular short haul destinations a no-go due to the milder weather and unpredictable showers, the Canary Islands are still going strong due to their year-round sunshine and super climate.

A four hour flight from the UK is all that’s between your family and your Canaries half term break – what’s stopping you? With a little forethought, it’s easy to keep children occupied during short haul flights and once you’re at your chosen resort, there’s nothing stopping you from enjoying the sun, sea and sand that awaits.

Whether you choose one of the all-inclusive Tenerife holidays from Direct Holidays or you’d prefer to head for one of her neighbours, such as Gran Canaria or Lanzarote, you can guarantee a fabulous break for you and your kids to help you all unwind before the impending festive madness.

Los Cristianos would be an ideal base for your family this October half term, away from the bright neon lights of Playa de las Americas. While it’s only 20 minutes away from its buzzing neighbour, it’s also within the vicinity of the popular Thai-themed amusement park, Siam Park, which is arguably the biggest and best waterpark in Europe.

Gran Canaria

Much less hectic than Tenerife, Gran Canaria offers something for everyone and is particularly well suited for families. From the sand dunes of Maspalomas, which would be perfectly explored on the back of a guided camel ride, to the beautiful, glistening sandy beaches in any of its popular resorts, Gran Canaria will provide a laid-back week in the sun for you all.

If you’re after a completely chilled out, relaxing time, Lanzarote is the place for you. Head to Costa Teguise for easy access to the local waterpark and plenty of family-friendly attractions, including superb Blue Flag beaches begging to be visited.

The October half term is a perfect time to jet off for a short haul escape and the Canary Islands are the ideal destination for it.
