One of my friends got me onto the site Pinterest.
What is Pinterest you might ask? From Time Magazine’s 50 Best Websites of 2011:
The basic idea behind Pinterest — which lets you create and share collections of stuff you like in any category you choose — has been tried before by start-ups that didn’t make much of a mark. This time it might take off. Pinterest makes the process painless by offering a Pin It button that lets you grab pictures of your favorite things as you browse the Web. The site then collects the images on “boards” that other users can follow and comment on.
So, what exactly does this have to do with travel, simple, inspiration.
If you’re anything like me, you have a ton of places you want to go on vacation, so many in fact, sometimes it’s hard to keep up with exactly where all the places are!
That’s where Pinterest comes in. Basically, it allows you to ‘pin’ pictures from the internet and group them. For example, say you are thinking about a honeymoon, start a folder called Honeymoon and then anytime you’re surfing the web and come across a beautiful place like Sharm El’Sheikh, Thailand, Cyprus, plop it into the folder and you’re good to go.
What I use Pinterest for is my vacation inspirations and travel bucket list. Since I have so many places I want to go, I like to break down the categories, for instance my Travel Bucket List has pins like ‘visit a winery in New Zealand,’ ‘try curling in Canada,’ ‘attend an Olympics,’ and so on.
Then because I’ve discovered I am clearly someone who is partial to wanting to visit cold weather places, I’ve made another set that is for Winter Vacations that features to do’s like ‘Christmas in Switzerland’ and ‘Run the Bobsled Track at Lake Placid.’
I love adding future trips to my list, especially when in the past I’d always see some cool vacation spot, think oh that’s awesome, and then get distracted and forget about it later. This way I will never have to worry about missing out on something I might find interesting.
Of course, Pinterest can work for anything, home decor, favorite Kindle books, baby showers, spring fashion, you name it.
I’d suggest checking it out, maybe it will help provide some inspiration to your vacation and travel bucket lists, let me know if you find some amazing ideas you never knew about before!
