In November, I took a mini vacation out to Aspen, Colorado. Being my first time in Colorado, I was really awestruck by the beauty of the natural landscape and wanted to check out a National Park. I debated going to Arches, but the 5-hour drive was a little more than I was willing to do in a day. While looking at Google Maps, I saw the telltale swath of green and saw “Colorado National Monument.”
A few miles off Route 70, near Grand Junction, Colorado and not actually all that far from the Utah border (hence my brief flash of desire to drive right past it), it is about a two and a half hour drive from Aspen. And, I’ll say the drive itself was pretty awesome!
I took the scenic Rim Rock Drive, which goes around the upper lip of the canyon and is 23 miles long. There are plenty of designated pull-offs and signs for information, admiration, and of course, a bit of photography.
